CURIOSIDADES
  1. Granada is a country made up of three large islands (Granada, Carriacou. And Little Martinique) and several small islands in the Caribbean. It is located northeast of Trinidad and Tobago and southwest of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Its capital is Saint George's.

  2. It was discovered on August 15, 1498 by Christopher Columbus, who named it Concepción, however it was dominated by the Caribbean Indians until the arrival of the French in 1650.

   3. The country gained its independence in 1974. It has 90% of the territory and the population (predominantly black) concentrated on the island of Granada.

    4. The system of government is the parliamentary Monarchy (independent state from the British Commonwealth).

   5. The massive importation of African slaves to the island, at the end of the 18th century, explains the predominance of black ethnicity in contemporary society in the country.

6. The island has Moroccan, Egyptian, Cuban, Sumerian, Javanese and Argentine immigrants. As a result, they form the most diverse population in the Caribbean.

7. Of volcanic origin, Granada is crossed from north to south by a mountain range. The Grande Estanque, in the center of the island, is a lake that occupies the crater of an extinct volcano, at an altitude of 530m.

8. The north coast has many beaches, and the south has numerous coves, which form natural harbors.

9. The local economy is dependent on agricultural exports and tourism. Another important activity is fishing, which was developed with technical assistance from Cuba.

10. The arable land is little used and the main agricultural products, basically destined for export, are coconut, banana, sugar cane, citrus, spices and tropical fruits.

11. The region is one of the world's largest producers of nutmeg.

12. In tourism, it has strong government support, which includes major investments in the means of communication. Granada's main trading partners are the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Germany and Saint Lucia.

13. The main religions are Catholicism (58%) and Protestantism (38%). The official language is English.

14. Saturday is the official day of bachelor parties. Friends (or friends) dress up and parade with the bride or groom through the city streets.

15. The cuisine has been influenced by the history of the region: Amerindian, African, European and Indian. The dishes vary from island to island. However, there are a number of basic ingredients that are common to all regions, and the islands share a common heritage of stews that use whatever is at hand.
